Recommended Imaris Optimization Steps:
Download and install the latest video card drivers directly from the manufacturers website, likely either NVIDIA or ATI. Do not use Windows update.
Process all data sets on a local drive; due to network timeout settings, we do not recommend using a network drive
Check that you have the proper Texture display cache set in Imaris. It should be set to the level of graphics card RAM.
File > Preferences > Display
Check the Data Cache Memory limit setting in Imaris; this should be set to about 60% of the total CPU RAM installed on your workstation. For example, if you have 16 GB RAM, I would set it to about 10,000 MB. Especially if this is to be used as a primary image analysis workstation.
File > Preferences > Calculation > set "Maximum Number of Commands in History" to 1.
Set the Cache File Path to a folder that is on a drive different from where you are accessing your data files. For example, if your data files are stored on the D: drive, set your Cache location to the C: or E: drive - pick a drive with as much free space as possible.
Disable the Spatial Statistics unless you are sure you will need these statistics (more information about the Spatial Statistics can be found by selecting Help > Statistics Reference); these statistics take a long time to calculate and are not often used.
File > Preferences > Statistics > expand the menu for the Spots and Surfaces modules > uncheck the box next to "Spatial" > OK > restart Imaris.
